Stop. Drop and roll.

This simple fire safety technique is just one of several safety lessons that children will be able to learn at South Grand Lake’s Camp Bandage Saturday, June 10.
Camp Bandage is a free public service safety camp and kids’ fun fair directed at children under driving age and their parents and grandparents.
During Camp Bandage, children will have the opportunity to learn about safe outdoor recreation, health, first aid, weather, fire safety, injury prevention and more, all presented in a fun, educational environment.

An annual safety event in Broken Arrow for more than 30 years, Camp Bandage is making its South Grand Lake debut at Grand Lake RV Resort on Duck Creek at 31527 South 4510 Road, Afton.
Supported by the Grand River Dam Authority and South Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce, as well as area churches, schools, civic groups and neighborhoods, Camp Bandage is a one-day safety event that runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Beginning at 10 a.m., Safety Patrol T-shirts will be given away to the first 500 children who arrive at Camp Bandage.
In addition to free admission, there also will be free hot dogs and drinks, as well as prizes.

The Grand River Dam Authority, ATV Drive Safe Oklahoma, area fire and police departments, area EMTs and area medical providers, as well as volunteer safety groups will be on hand to give safety classes and demonstrations. They also will provide kid-friendly safety material on a wide variety of subjects.

Children will get to see a display of emergency vehicles, including a helicopter, fire trucks, a fire boat, ambulances, police cars and a patrol boat. Camp Bandage will also include an ATV safety course.

Camp Bandage organizers are looking forward to having Tulsa’s Akdar Shriners bring their “Burn Awareness” trailer which simulates a house fire. The two-story trailer is equipped with a kitchen area, living room and second-floor bedroom complete with stairs, doors and windows, allowing children to learn what to do in case of a house fire.

The Grand River Dam Authority will be demonstrating an electrical arc similar to a downed power line. Kids will be taught vital lessons about electrical currents in real world situations during Camp Bandage.

The day’s fun and activities also will include karaoke, dancing and games.
